Profile:
In pre-partition India, besides Agriculture college Lyallpur (now in Pakistan), Khalsa College was the only other institution to offer B.Sc in Agriculture. The agriculture college has played a significant role in bringing about the legendary Green revolution in Punjab during sixties & seventies. A large number of agriculture scientists who adorn various key positions at national and international levels are the pride products of this college. The bright luminaries in this firmament include charismatic Dr. Khem Singh Gill, Former Vice-Chancellor Punjab Agricultural University, and Dr. N. S Randhawa, former Director general of ICAR and Secretary to Govt. of India. Also one of its glorious students and a former faculty member is Dr. K.S Aulakh, presently Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agriculture University at Ludhiana. Besides these, a very large number of Chief Agriculture Officers, Block Development Officers, University level teachers and research faculty, eminent scientists in reputed universities and research institution around the world, Agriculture Inspectors, scientists and other agri-specialists working with private agro-based industries constitute a great achievement of Faculty of Agriculture.
The college offers B.Sc Agriculture (Honors School), a 4 Years honors degree course. The college also offers M.Sc in Agronomy, Horticulture & Economics. Also attached to the faculty is the Food Technology Department that offers B.Sc (Food Tech). |
